Mercedes-Benz OM355 Inline Six-Cylinder Four-Stroke Diesel Engine Basic Information and History:
First released in 1968 (initial generation 195 PS / 2000 rpm), it was subsequently developed into several versions, including naturally aspirated, turbocharged, and turbo-intercooled versions, mainly used in heavy trucks, long-distance buses, and construction machinery; the production cycle covered the late 1960s to the early 1990s.
OM355 Engine Overhaul Cycles:
Standard Operating Conditions (Highway/Bus/Truck): 12,000–15,000 engine hours or 800,000–1,000,000 km
Heavy Dust/Construction Machinery/Mining/High Dust Environments: 8,000–10,000 engine hours or 500,000–700,000 km
Extremely Poor Maintenance/Long-Term Overloading/Inferior Oil: Overhaul Required After 4,000–6,000 Hours
