introduces car backlight drives with integrated boost converters to accommodate ultra low temperature environments

2021-07-09

Gage Automotive-July 6th, Maxim Integrated Product launches a four-channel, low pressure, automotive LED backlight drive MAX25512. with an integrated boost converter. This is the only integrated solution that maintains the complete and constant brightness of the vehicle display even at extreme cold start conditions of as low as 3V input voltage.
The single-chip LED drive cancels the external MOSFET and current detection resistor and integrates I²C communication to reduce material costs and reduce the circuit board space by 30%. Through the I²C interface, diagnostic functions such as SHORT to GND on each current absorber provide reminders to the microcontroller and each channel pulse width modulation (PWM) settings to ensure safer and higher quality display. In addition, MAX25512 has integrated hybrid dimmer functions to reduce electromagnetic interference (EMI) and improve the dimmer ratio.
He drive includes four 120mA channels that have the highest efficiency in the industry when operating at 2.2MHz frequencies, up to 91%. The MAX25512 is packaged in small 24 pins, 4mm x 4mm x 0.75mm square flat no pin (QFN). The drive was reduced by 30% because of the high integration and cancelled external components.
Today's car start and stop system improves fuel economy, but also makes it difficult for the power transmission system to maintain the same display brightness when it is relaunched. For example, at startup, functions such as display lighting may be affected by the cold start environment, and the engine consuming excessive car battery power causes the display to turn off and reopen. The Maxim Integrated's MAX25512 LED backlit drive has as low operating voltage as 3V, after startup without adding a pre-boost converter to protect the monitor from a power interruption.
"Automakers need LED drives with higher integration to reduce solution costs and PCB area," said Szu-Kang Hsien, director of business management at Maxim Integrated. The Maxim Integrated's MAX25512 LED drive provides the highest level of integration and efficiency at 2.2MHz switching frequencies."
