Features of dry cylinder liners

2020-12-30

The characteristic of the dry cylinder liner is that the outer surface of the cylinder liner does not contact the coolant. In order to obtain a sufficient actual contact area with the cylinder block to ensure the heat dissipation effect and the positioning of the cylinder liner, the outer surface of the dry cylinder liner and the inner surface of the cylinder block bearing hole matched with it have high machining accuracy, and generally adopt Interference fit.

In addition, dry cylinder liners have thin walls, and some are only 1mm thick. The lower end of the outer circle of the dry cylinder liner is made with a small taper angle so as to press the cylinder block. The top (or the bottom of the cylinder bearing hole) is available with flange and without flange. The amount of interference fit with a flange is small because the flange can help its positioning.

The advantages of dry cylinder liners are that it is not easy to leak water, the structure of the cylinder body is rigid, there is no cavitation, the cylinder center distance is small, and the body mass is small; the disadvantages are inconvenient repair and replacement and poor heat dissipation.

In engines with a bore less than 120mm, it is widely used due to its small thermal load. It is worth mentioning that the dry cylinder liner of foreign automotive diesel engines has developed rapidly because of its outstanding advantages.
