Causes Of Broken Piston Rings

2022-03-08

Piston ring refers to the metal ring embedded in the piston groove in the forklift accessories. There are many kinds of piston rings due to different structures, mainly compression rings and oil rings. Piston ring breakage is a common damage form of piston rings. One, generally speaking, the first and second passages of the piston ring are the most easily broken, and most of the broken parts are close to the lap.

The piston ring can be divided into several sections, and it may also be broken or even lost. If the piston ring is broken, it will lead to increased wear of the cylinder, and the broken ring of the engine may be blown into the exhaust pipe or the scavenging air box, or even into the turbocharger. and turbine end, damage turbine blades and cause serious accidents!

In addition to material defects and poor processing quality, the reasons for the fracture of piston rings are mainly the following reasons:

1. The lap gap between the piston rings is too small. When the lap gap of the piston ring is smaller than the gap between the assemblies, the piston ring in operation will be heated and the temperature will rise, so there is not enough space for the lap gap. The middle metal swells and the ends of the laps bend to the top and break near the knee.

2. Carbon deposits in the piston ring groove The poor combustion of the piston rings leads to overheating of the cylinder wall, which makes the lubricating oil oxidize or burn, which further leads to the serious accumulation of carbon in the cylinder. As a result, the piston ring and the cylinder wall have a strong interaction, the scraping oil and metal waste are mixed, and local hard deposits are formed on the lower end surface of the ring groove, and there is a local hard carbon opportunity under the piston ring. The pressure of the circulating gas makes the piston Rings bend or even break.

3. The ring groove of the piston ring is excessively worn. After the ring groove of the piston ring is excessively worn, it will form a horn shape. When the piston ring is close to the lower end of the inclined ring groove due to the action of the stop air pressure, the piston ring will be twisted and deformed, and the piston will be deformed. The ring groove will be excessively worn or even destroyed.

4. The serious wear of the piston ring and cylinder liner is at the position of the upper and lower dead centers of the piston ring, and it is easy to produce stepped wear and cause shoulders. When the big end of the connecting rod is worn or the original end of the connecting rod is repaired, the original dead point will be damaged. The position has changed and the shock ring is caused by inertial forces.
